About James Stuart
He writes thrillers set in the places he knows: mountains, rivers and caves.
Before turning to fiction, James ran an outdoor activity centre in Wales. He has paddled extensively around the UK and has climbed and mountaineered around the world, and he spends what time is left mountain biking and skiing.
Time to Kill is his first novel. It grew out of a simple question: what would happen if the people who know serious country best were forced to use it against someone who does not?
Why write about the outdoors?
Because the outdoors is where skill meets consequence. A river does not care how confident you are, and a cave does not forgive a guess. That honesty makes it a natural home for a thriller.
You can read more about the places and the real skills behind the book on the settings page.
